EU05: Retail Loss Prevention: The Bigger Picture Room: 206 ~ 11:30AM - 12:30PM (Thursday, March 25, 2010)
Retail Theft has become a significant issue that's impacted not only retail merchants, but also consumers that pick up the tab for this $40 billion per year problem. Organized Retail Crime (ORC), has also been linked as a funding source for terrorist activities, and commonly involves violent offenders who have turned to retail theft and fraud. Sixty percent of retailers with annual revenue greater than $5 billion rate organized retail crime (ORC) as a top-three business challenge (RILA). The role of retail loss prevention staff is also changing, as they become more of a strategic business partner, in addition to their traditional roles of detecting, deterring, and apprehending external and internal theft suspects. This panel will bring together industry and law enforcement experts who will provide insight into how technology, best practices, and partnerships can impact this growing problem.
