Increased bandwidth, better compression and hosted security systems are making Security as a Service (SaaS) a reality, alleviating the customer's task of software maintenance, ongoing operation, and support. SaaS services include alarm, camera, and condition monitoring, with the recording and monitoring hardware for the services hosted at the central station or a third party provider. Minimal investment and services tailored to special needs of virtually any user make remote video monitoring a necessary investment for a wide range of resellers. This panel of experts will explain how IP-based monitoring solutions are effectively used in providing SaaS, outline the benefits of this new model, and give real-life examples of its usage. Learning Objectives: 1. Discover how SaaS can be used to increase services to an existing subscriber base and be used to gain in-roads into the largest growing sector in today's economy 2. Learn how SaaS lets companies focus on managing their business and outsource all hardware and application software to the SaaS vendor. 3. Gain an understanding of the architecture for this new business model and its benefits Speaker: Shayne P. Violent crime in Buffalo, NY is down by more than 10 percent in the past two years, with much credit going to a wireless video surveillance system that goes well beyond traditional security cameras. The innovative real-time video surveillance approach helped police make their first five arrests, while the installation was still in progress. This panel discussion will feature the police commissioner, an officer who is trained to observe, interpret and act on video surveillance, and the technical expert who provided the system. They'll discuss how a well-planned, comprehensive technology implementation will provide public value, demonstrate results, and lead to more improvements. The presentations will include vivid video of how the system has led to the arrests and convictions of several criminals. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize how the city of Buffalo's use of technology has expanded law enforcement capabilities to solve and prevent crimes. 2. Identify two ways to bundle funding resources to achieve desired goals. 3. Articulate at least 3 components of a well-planned technology implementation that provides public value, measurable results, and continued improvements.
