Public and private organizations are rapidly deploying physical software to increase asset protection, and improve safety and security. By coupling these efforts with their traditional IT security information management (SIM) solutions, they have the potential to become a significant new security asset for broad-based pro-active threat detection and response. Rather than looking at the problem as either a security or technology issue, some leading organizations are doing top down risk assessments to set priorities and identify areas where teaming between the traditional physical and IT security groups can lower overall costs while increasing protection and safety. But how can these organizations optimize the implementation of these systems to reduce risk and enhance overall security management? How are risks identified and prioritized so the most critical are addressed first? And how can costs be reduced and existing security devices leveraged? This discussion featuring industry experts will focus on strategic risk management, including the "where, what and how" for organizations. Learning Objectives: 1. Learn how to identify physical and logical security risks and prioritize and implement a strategic risk management program. 2. Discover the methods and tools which are used to measure the overall risk factors of an organization, and how they can leverage these tools to identify where gaps exist. 3. Understand how public and private organizations are implementing this risk management approach, how they prioritize their strategic security program and funding requests, and how they are ensuring asset protection, safety and security. Most video systems today do not effectively catch bad guys because the resultant images are blurry and/or blochy. As a result, too many customers are not satisfied with their investment, and they blame the integrator who blames the consultant who blames the manufacturer. Meanwhile, the bad guy keeps getting away. The reality is poor system performance and image quality is more often due to a lack of early and consistent communication between the end-user, integrator, and specifier, as opposed to technology failure. By using simple descriptive terminology and basic video standards that end-users, architects, and integrators can easily understand, we will develop a series of guidelines that will substantially improve system design and installation to more effectively satisfy end user requirements and budget. Learning Objectives: 1. End users will learn how to effectively communicate user requirements to ensure expectations are met within budget. 2. Identify key elements of the video environment and their impact on bandwidth and storage when considering different compression methods like H.264, MPEG-4, and MJPEG. 3. Learn to balance surveillance needs and wants to maximize end user investment in an IP video system, and consultant/integrator effectiveness in meeting end user goals. Wireless networks can be designed with mainly three different topologies: point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and mesh. All the aforementioned topologies have advantages depending on the specific application and site we are working on. Lately wireless networks based on the mesh topology have gained a lot of traction in security and CCTV applications because of the absence of any single point of failure, and because of their intrinsic reliability and redundancy. On the other hand, point to point links, and point to multipoint networks are still very common in smaller applications, or in sites where we are unable to create multiple wireless paths for data and video streams. Learning Objectives: 1. Discover more about different wireless network topologies. 2. Understand the advantages of mesh architecture proving the basis to successfully design mesh-based wireless video-surveillance systems. 3. It seems that everywhere you turn there is a new manufacturing profit proclaiming that theirs is the product to save and promote the idealisms behind open architecture design. At the same time, on every corner there is an integrator or major security conglomerate screaming about the impossibilities of designing, promoting and/or purchasing a fully functional, IP based, open architecture CCTV system. In this "Must Attend" session, CCTV industry authority, Charlie R. Pierce will remove the myths of the subject, and discuss what is possible and where the pit falls are located. Attendees will gain enough information to make viable decisions about IP based CCTV systems. Learning Objectives: 1. Learn how to properly define "Open Architecture" as it applies to Digital CCTV 2. Understand the pitfalls to avoid when designing or installing digital based CCTV Systems 3. Define the differences between fact and myth. Speaker: Charlie R. Pierce - President, LeapFrog Training & Consulting
Violent crime in Buffalo, NY is down by more than 10 percent in the past two years, with much credit going to a wireless video surveillance system that goes well beyond traditional security cameras. The innovative real-time video surveillance approach helped police make their first five arrests, while the installation was still in progress. This panel discussion will feature the police commissioner, an officer who is trained to observe, interpret and act on video surveillance, and the technical expert who provided the system. They'll discuss how a well-planned, comprehensive technology implementation will provide public value, demonstrate results, and lead to more improvements. The presentations will include vivid video of how the system has led to the arrests and convictions of several criminals. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize how the city of Buffalo's use of technology has expanded law enforcement capabilities to solve and prevent crimes. 2. Identify two ways to bundle funding resources to achieve desired goals. 3. Articulate at least 3 components of a well-planned technology implementation that provides public value, measurable results, and continued improvements. Retail Theft has become a significant issue that's impacted not only retail merchants, but also consumers that pick up the tab for this $40 billion per year problem. Organized Retail Crime (ORC), has also been linked as a funding source for terrorist activities, and commonly involves violent offenders who have turned to retail theft and fraud. Sixty percent of retailers with annual revenue greater than $5 billion rate organized retail crime (ORC) as a top-three business challenge (RILA). The role of retail loss prevention staff is also changing, as they become more of a strategic business partner, in addition to their traditional roles of detecting, deterring, and apprehending external and internal theft suspects. This panel will bring together industry and law enforcement experts who will provide insight into how technology, best practices, and partnerships can impact this growing problem. Learning Objectives: 1. Learn to understand the entire business operation, so that LP executives can add value and elevate their role within the organization. 2. Carefully evaluate the tools and technologies available in LP and build hard value ROI on the tools being implemented. 3. Showcase perspectives from LP industry leaders who are at various stages in their careers and give attendees insight on what is impacting them today and how they have been able to affect change outside of LP's typical role in the organization. Moderator: Curt Crum - Supervisor, Crime Prevention Unit, Boise Police Department Speaker:Jack Gee - Detective, Ft. It seems everywhere you turn today, we're hearing about "cloud computing" and Software-as-a-Service applications. But what do these technologies mean for the security industry? This presentation will define these new technology offers, and demonstrate how everything has changed with the options and power available from new "SaaS" technologies. This vast array of functionality makes SaaS directly applicable to solving physical and logical security challenges in an easy to use, cost effective manner. Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the technology and business justifications for cloud computing. 2. Understand the impact of cloud computing and SaaS on the security industry. 3. Understand what benefits end-users are seeking from cloud computing. Speaker: Steve Van Till - Co-founder, Brivo Systems LLC

If you're considering or are already implementing IP Video Surveillance on a converged enterprise network, you won't want to miss this valuable session. Joel King will introduce how video encoding, resolution, image quality, and frames per second influence the demands for network bandwidth and service level requirements of the LAN/WAN. Participants will learn how IP Video Surveillance (IPVS), and other forms of network based video, can be integrated into an enterprise Quality of Service (QoS) model. He'll also examine branch and campus deployment models using network segmentation techniques such as VLANS, VrF lite, Layer-2 MPLS and IPSec encryption of IPVS traffic. Additionally he'll review how network services such as Power over Ethernet (PoE), Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Network Time Protocol (NTP), syslog and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) are fundamental requirements for IPVS. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe how IP Video Surveillance (IPVS) can be integrated into an enterprise QoS model. 2. Determine the IP network services that can be leveraged by IPVS deployments 3. Identify the network virtualization techniques that can be used to segment and secure IPVS traffic. Speaker: Joel King - Technical Leader, Cisco Systems
